Esme

Esme is mother to the Cullen clan and Carlisle's wife. Forever 26, she was married to an abusive man. When she found out she was pregnant, she ran away. She loved being a mother, but her child died just a few days after birth.

Overcome with grief, Esme attempts suicide by jumping off a cliff. When she is brought to the morgue, Carlisle recognizes her and realizes she is barely alive. He makes her a vampire, and they've been together ever since.

Although she has no special powers, Esme loves deeply and passionately. She is very much the caretaker of those she loves—and includes Bella in her family from the beginning.
